Chocolate Depression Cake
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
3. Create three wells in the dry ingredients and add the vinegar, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil into each well.
4. Pour the water over the mixture and mix well until all ingredients are combined and no lumps remain.
5. Pour the batter into a greased 8-inch square baking pan.
6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
Secret Ingredient Chocolate Frosting
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. In a small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, honey, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
2. Once the cake has cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top of the cake.
3. Serve and enjoy!
Note: If you prefer a sweeter frosting, you can add powdered sugar to taste.
